DBA Resource PageMiniature SourcesReviews of Xth Legion MiniaturesJames Ivan Hughes on Xth Legion Hellenistics and Personality FiguresIn general these are well proportioned figures with good, clear, deeply carved detail. I can't wait to put a wash on them. They are a little tall at 17 or 18mm from feet to top of helmet excluding crests. My order was filled exactly and arrived in under two weeks (not bad from the UK to Louisiana) and they were even kind enough to change my order when I emailed a correction the day after I phoned it in. MAC 12 Seleucid Pikes, There are two poses in each pack. They are all fairly similar, standing stolidly side-on in order to present shields with pikes at 45 degrees. The main difference between each pose is the armor, which varies in the details. This is good, as they will create a unit which is obviously regular and in formation, but on close inspection still composed of individuals. Pikes are not provided. The shields are cast seperately and attached to the base. Strangely 3 of the 4 shield types I got (two from each pack) have details molded on their face. It looks good though, and will simplify painting. A nice detail is the shield straps molded going around their shoulders to hold up the shield while both hands grip the pike. The fact that the shields are cast separately lends these figures to various conversions. COM 10 Republican General, Mounted: The weakest of the lot. Again good detail, but a boring pose, just sitting there on a walking horse. On this and the following figure, the rider's legs look peculiarly long until you put the fig on the horse, then they look normal. I guess its because their "skirts" are hiked up a bit while mounted. A serviceable, workhorse commander. COM 16 Alexander the Great, Mounted: This figure is cool. Looks just like the picture of Alexander from the Osprey book. I only wish he were wearing the famous lion helmet though. He's carrying a very short sword instead of the spear depicted in the Osprey illustration. The horses: Good size and shape, but a little short on detail. The Republican general's is rather plain vanilla with little decoration or movement. Alexanders is trotting along at a good clip, and is wearing a complete leopard skin! I am satisfied with these figures and will buy Xth Legion again.
