DBA Resource PageMiniature SourcesReviews of Peter Pig MiniaturesPaul Rice on Peter Pig's Roman AuxiliariesI just finished painting Roman Auxiliaries, using Peter Pig 3-16. These are my first non Essex miniatures. I am impressed that they were exactly the Auxiliaries I was looking for, in terms of armament and time period. Level of detail is almost Essex standards. I was pleased they have wreaths around their shields, which painted nicely. Actually too much detail around the ankles, as they seem to have two bands around mid calf. This is puzzling since their sandals would stop lower, and their knee length trousers stop higher. While we're on feet, the back foot on each figure is elevated (as if running) and held to the stand by a pedestal, which I painted as a tuft of grass. The connection between feet and stand is pretty thin, and I noticed at least one trooper isn't far from breaking off due to metal fatigue. The shields were a separate piece, which required glueing on -- actually adds some variety as each one can be at a slightly different angle.
