Reviews of Jacobite (Simtac) Miniatures

Eric Lindberg on Jacobite Miniatures

Jacobite is the 15mm historical range sold through Simtac. I've bought quite a few of their Renaissance figures and some of the Medieval East European range. Quality is usually poor to middling. Crossbow and bow figures often have incomplete weapons. Telling the difference between detail and flash is sometimes difficult. Anatomical details tend to be a little blobby and misproportioned. Many figures look as though they are from old molds, so their newer ranges (like their Renaissance Swiss) might be better. A few figures are of superior quality. Their Renaissance artillery and crew look quite good. The "Provost with Drunk" figure just cries out to be the centerpiece of an absolutely wonderful camp scene. For the most part though, I use Jacobite figures as inexpensive filler troops.

Howard Whitehourse on Jacobite (Eastern European) Feudals

I've got some of the Jacobite figures from this range, which dates from, what, 1980ish. They are a bit mixed, with some quite good figures and others a lot less so. I especially remember a Polish axeman with 2-handed axe, which was very good, and an armoured spearman who was, er, a bit insectoid. The last time I saw these figures they were packed in 20 identical foot (which is a lot of one type in an irregular army, especially if you get one of the ugly figures) - though they were also a dollar a pack, which overcomes a lot of criticism.
