Thracian Hilltop Camp

By Texus Maximus

The hill is carved from blue foamboard. The base of the hill, along with the stacked stone wall on top are made of kitty litter. The steps were inspired by a visit to a Thracian/Byzantine/Ottoman fort I visited near Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 2006. These were carved with an X-Acto knife. The whole thing was painted black then dry brushed with light browns and greys. The flocking at the base is Gale Force 9 "Autumn Mix".

The figures are conversions of an Essex Greek, an Old Glory archer, and a Xyston Thracian slinger. They are posed to suggest a desperate defense - throwing rocks, peering out from behind the wall (both the warrior and his shield), and turning back while ascending the steps for another shot.  I thought about putting a cart full of rocks on top, being pushed to the edge and ready to roll downhill on the enemy, but it simply took up too much room!
