The Auxum Obelisk

By Paul Hannah for use with his Auxumite army.

The scene features a model of the ancient, "Axum Obelisk", which has been been mentioned in the news in recent months. Shipped off to Italy by Mussolini's regime in 1937, the monument stood for decades in Rome's Piazza di Porta Capena, about halfway between the Colosseum and Baths of Caracalla. Following WW-2, Ethiopia negotiated a promise from Italy to return it. For a variety of reasons, many of the logistical, that never happened. Finally, in 2003, it was removed and crated for a flight back to Ethiopia, but for months it remained in a Rome airport, as few cargo planes had both the ability to haul it. Earlier this year (2005), it was finally flown back to Ethiopia, but it has yet to be re-erected. Stay tuned, I guess.  The stuff we learn in this fair hobby of ours, eh?
