DBA Built-Up Areas
Samarkand

Scratch-built city to serve as a BUA for my Central Asian City-States - Samanid DBA morph. The city is built on a thick card base, with walls made of foam core anchored on balsa wood towers. I cut windows and doors into the towers with an Exacto knife. Once assembled with white glue, I sprayed the model with textured paint ("stone" color), and then drybrushed in a sandy brown. The buildings are commercial 6mm scenics from JR Miniatures modern Middle-East range.
This BUA is a good example of why DBA rules can drive you crazy. It is built exactly 4.5 x 4.5 basewidths to adhere to the restriction that a BUA can't be larger than 9 basewidths in length plus width. However, that is too large to legally deploy on a 15mm scaled game board; even if you center it along one edge, because it is still within 900p of two battlefield edges. One might think the rules would have reconciled these two restrictions so that there was no opportunity for conflict.
