Pydna, 168 B.C.
DBA Giant Battle
GM: Mike Porter
Scale: 15mm
Board: Special
Rounds: NA
Players: 12
As part of the Third Macedonian War, the Battle of Pydna was
pivotal, setting the stage for the immediate decline of Macedonia
and its eventual annexation by Rome. This battle also demonstrated
the ascendancy of the Roman manipular battle formation over the
Macedonian Phalanx. Will history repeat with DBA?
Choose your side: The expansionist Romans, or the last Antigonid
King: Perseus of Macedonia. Bring either II/33 Polybian Roman or
II/35 Later Macedonian. Polybian players may bring one elephant
element in addition to the standard list detailed in the rulebook
(thus making the army 13 elements). No need to bring a camp, each
side will only have one, and these will be provided. Some special
deployment rules will be utilized, as will some BBDBA rules. Special
event cards will be used to help the flow of the battle.

DBA Themes Tournament
GM: WADBAGer TBD
Scale: 15mm
Board: 24'' for the Biblical, Greek Classical and Asia and
Eastern Steppes themes. 30'' for Roman Classical, Dark Ages
Europe, and Medieval Europe themes.
Rounds: 3
Players: 12 per theme
David Kuijt reports the results:
-
Joe Schmidt won the Biblical/Stone Age Americas theme with his
Tlaxies. This was a very tight theme -- every player was 1-1
after the second round, so it was still anyone's tournament!
-
Doug Austin won the Roman Classical Theme by default, but was
very successful in the Dark Ages theme as an inserted player to
make the numbers even, going 2-0-1. He had Commagenes.
-
Marty Schmidt won the Dark Ages theme with his Italian Lombards
-
Mike Porter crushed all before him with Koryo Koreans in the
Asia Theme.
-
David Kuijt was the only player signed up in Medievals, and the
total numbers ended up odd, so I didn't get to play. It made it
much less work to run it (not having to do two things at once),
but it was very sad for my Mighty Early Swiss, who were brand
new, just off their total brutal chopping-up of Marty's command
in the BBDBA finals (they ignore what was on the brink of
happening to the small pip command on the other flank as
irrelevant to their communal glory), and wanted to prove their
merit on the singles DBA field for the first time.
-
Jeff Franz, continuing the tale of Florida Glory for the
weekend, won the Greek Classical theme in spite of an unfinished
game in the first round.
In the Themes, players can choose one of six historical theme eras for standard
tournament games. Eligible armies by theme are:
