According to the legends, the Mycenaean Kings held enmity against the descendants of Hercules and not only exiled them from Mycenae but ran them out of Peloponesse. The desperate refugees found sanctuary with the Athenian king Theseus, who refused to hand them over to King Eurestheas of Mycenae. The Mycenaeans invaded Attica in full force. The Athenian army, reinforced by the battle worthy Heracleidae (Heraclids), won the day after bitter fighting. Though the events are set before the Trojan War, I believe that the legend
actually describes the opening moves that triggered the coming of the era that
we know as Geometric Dark Age.
