Reinhard Sabel's
Anglo-Danes,
1014 - 1075 AD
DBA III/71
The figures are 1/72 plastics from Strelets
Anglo-Saxons. No other figures and no conversions were used.

General and His Carles (4Bd/Gen)
The Anglo-Danish leader and his personal
bodyguards. Actually itīs Harold Godwinson himself. The figure
does look rather passive - perhaps already wounded?
A scene suggesting this, is shown on the Strelets package.)

Housecarls (2x4Bd)
The Elite-Warriors of the Anglo-Saxon/Danish army.
Professional soldiers. Typical weapon is the huge double-handed axe.
Not all of them have chain-mail in this Strelets set, which is a bit
odd, but still the axes look very impressive.

Fyrd (9x4Sp)
The main battle line comprised of the so-called
Fyrd. Armed mostly with spear and shield. Most are lighter armed and
armoured compared to the Housecarls. Many would be little less
than armed peasants. The shields are a bit small, so the Saxon "shieldwall"
does not look too impressive. Still I like the look of the lot.

Archers (1x2Ps)
The Saxons (aka Anglo-Danes) had only few archers
at the battle of Hastings and they did not play a significant role.
In this army they can be substituted for another 4Sp-Element.
