Bill MacGillivray's
Shang Chinese (I/13ab)

Armies of the Fanatici > Eye Candy > DBA Resources > Fanaticus

Here are my Shang Chinese, comprised of an Essex army pack (I/13a), plus the chariots required for the (b) list. I cut down the dagger-axes to better represent the one-handed variety used at the time. The camp followers are from Essex' Early Chinese Barbarians range. The earthen-work camp (in the background of most shots) was quickly made by repeated dribbles of basetex textured paint in layers to form a wall. The flag is my version of one shown in the Osprey on early Chinese armies.

It is really a rather flexible list, although it lacks any real "punch" troops apart fron the HCh general option. The "later army arrayed" picture shows the option I used at last year's English DBA Open, where it fared well until faced with the massed Blades and Spears of a Polybian Roman.

Early Shang (I/13a) Arrayed

Later Shang (I/13b) Arrayed

Early Shang General (Bw/Gen)

Larger Shang General & Nobles (HCh/Gen or LCh/Gen)

Daggermen (4Bd)

Spearmen (3Ax)

Archers (4Bw and 2Ps)
